Brien Lorenze moved from CPSC executive director to commissioner

The White House sent Brien Lorenze's nomination for a Consumer Product Safety Commission seat to the Senate on 1 June 2026; the Senate confirmed him on 7 August and he was sworn in on 8 September.

What the evidence says

The nomination specified a seven-year statutory term measured from 27 October 2024. That date describes the term attached to the seat, not the date Lorenze began serving as a commissioner.

At the June nominations hearing, Lorenze was serving as CPSC executive director. The agency's September announcement records his oath date and says his arrival, after Karen Sessions was sworn in, restored the Commission's quorum.

Why it matters

The useful distinction

Nomination, confirmation and taking office are separate milestones. Reporting all three prevents an early nomination notice from being mistaken for an appointment already in effect.
