About briefings

Published methodOpen access

Every note should lead back to evidence.

We use public primary sources, write a new factual summary, preserve the source identity and state the limits of what the record proves.

Editorial workflow

From publication to briefing

  1. 01

    Find the original

Start with a regulator, government register, authority or other first-party publication. A third-party page may prompt research, but it is labelled as context and does not support the published claims.

  2. 02

    Separate event and document

Record the action, jurisdiction and dates separately from the page that reports them, reducing duplicate or conflated records.

  3. 03

    Write narrowly

Paraphrase the source in fresh language and keep sample findings, legal changes and product-specific actions within their stated scope.

  4. 04

    Show provenance and reuse terms

Publish the original title, publisher, identifier, dates, source type, licence or reuse basis, attribution and direct URL beside every briefing.

What the labels mean

Published
The briefing is part of the public issue and may be corrected with a recorded update.
Published time
When the story was first published by Safer Shopping after approval, shown in UK time (GMT or BST). It stays the same when the site is rebuilt. It is separate from the source’s publication date and does not indicate independent human verification.
Open access
No subscription is required to read the Safer Shopping summary or follow its source link.
Source checked
The date an editor last confirmed the linked page and the claims used in our summary.
Context link
A discovery reference linked for transparency. Its title, publisher and date identify the page; its article body, images and substantive data are not reused or treated as factual authority.

Coverage limit

This is a selective publication, not a complete register of product-safety activity or everything known to authorities. No search result is proof that a product is safe.
