Two CPSC nominations cleared committee before August confirmation
The Senate Commerce Committee advanced Brien Lorenze and Karen Sessions for Consumer Product Safety Commission seats by separate 15-13 votes on 22 July 2026; the full Senate confirmed both nominations on 7 August.
What the evidence says
The committee described both 15-13 decisions as party-line votes. A committee vote advances a nomination but does not appoint the nominee; Senate confirmation and the oath of office are separate steps.
The Senate's official nominations list records both confirmations on 7 August as part of the nominations covered by roll-call vote 225. CPSC says Sessions was sworn in on 19 August and Lorenze on 8 September, restoring a three-member quorum with Acting Chairman Peter Feldman.
Why it matters
The useful distinction
The later confirmations, rather than the committee votes alone, changed the Commission's membership. Current status should accompany any account of the July committee action.
