EU sweep finds marketplace registration improving while listing information still falls short
A 2026 EU product-safety sweep checked nearly 1,700 online offers for children's and sports products and found that only 58% displayed the three assessed groups of manufacturer, EU responsible-person and product-identification information together.
What the primary source says
The European Commission says market-surveillance authorities examined almost 1,700 online offers between May and July 2026. The exercise focused on key information requirements under the General Product Safety Regulation, including identification of an EU responsible person and contact information.
Among the marketplaces assessed, 91% had registered in the Safety Gate portal and designated the required authority contact, compared with 53% in the previous exercise. All had designated a consumer contact, compared with 64% previously.
At listing level, 58% of checked offers simultaneously carried manufacturer contact details, EU responsible-person information and product identification. National authorities sent 560 orders to marketplaces concerning non-compliant offers. These are results for the offers and marketplaces checked, not a compliance rate for every EU online listing.
Why it matters
The useful distinction
Traceability information lets consumers and authorities identify who is responsible for a product and act when a safety issue emerges. Marketplace-level registration progress does not remove each trader's and product offer's information duties.
