International Product Safety Week puts a global safety baseline on the agenda

Regulators and other product-safety participants met in Brussels for International Product Safety Week, including an ICPHSO symposium focused on advancing a global baseline for product safety.

What the evidence says

The European Commission hosted International Product Safety Week in Brussels from 7 to 10 September. Its programme covered rapid alerts, e-commerce and new technology, enforcement tools, standards, child safety and the future of international product-safety cooperation.

The International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization symposium ran on 9 and 10 September under the theme 'Advancing a global baseline for product safety'. The Commission's closing account records the symposium as part of a week bringing together authorities, businesses, consumer organisations, researchers and other stakeholders.

The event was a forum for cooperation rather than a new binding global rule. Any legal effect still depends on measures adopted in the relevant jurisdiction.

Why it matters

The useful distinction

Products and online listings cross borders faster than national enforcement systems. Shared approaches can improve information exchange and reduce gaps, but businesses should distinguish international dialogue from requirements that have actually entered into force.

Scope note

This briefing is an independent summary of the evidence sources below. Context-only links are not used as factual authority. It does not establish that a product, organisation or listing is unsafe, unlawful or non-compliant beyond what the evidence reports.
