Sessions nomination accompanied a second pending CPSC nomination, but Hewes was later withdrawn

The White House nominated Karen Sessions for a CPSC term on 11 February 2026 while William Hewes III had another CPSC nomination pending. The White House withdrew Hewes's nomination on 12 March, so the projected Hewes-Sessions configuration did not occur.

What the evidence says

The Sessions notice specified a seven-year term measured from 27 October 2025, succeeding Mary T. Boyle. Hewes had been nominated on 13 January for a term measured from 27 October 2024, succeeding Douglas Dziak. Nomination notices do not themselves seat commissioners.

After Hewes was withdrawn, the White House nominated Brien Lorenze for the 2024-term seat. The Senate later confirmed Sessions and Lorenze; CPSC says Sessions was sworn in on 19 August and Lorenze on 8 September, restoring a three-member quorum with Acting Chairman Peter Feldman.

Why it matters

The useful distinction

Early coverage framed the simultaneous nominations as a possible future commission. The later withdrawal and replacement nomination materially changed that scenario, so a current briefing should present the projection as superseded rather than as an outcome.
