OPSS launches a product-regulation sandbox programme
The Office for Product Safety and Standards has introduced a programme for businesses developing innovative products or technologies to discuss regulatory questions with its experts at an early stage.
What the primary source says
The GOV.UK collection describes focused engagement on how existing requirements may apply, approaches to evidence and possible regulatory challenges before a product reaches the market.
The first listed sandbox concerns bioengineered ingredients for cosmetics. The collection gives the scope and application route. It does not state that participation grants approval or compliance status.
Why it matters
The useful distinction
Early engagement may help innovators identify evidence and regulatory questions sooner, while giving the regulator insight into emerging technologies. The terms of each individual sandbox remain important.
This briefing is an independent summary of the evidence sources below. Context-only links are not used as factual authority. It does not establish that a product, organisation or listing is unsafe, unlawful or non-compliant beyond what the evidence reports.
