US agency withdraws planned removal of two older infant-product rules
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission withdrew a direct final rule that would have removed two older rules concerning infant bouncer seats and stationary activity centres after receiving a significant adverse comment.
What the primary source says
The withdrawal took effect on 17 September 2026. The direct final rule had been published on 22 July and would have removed two rules the Commission described as obsolete because newer mandatory standards cover the products.
The notice says the Commission will consider the adverse comment and decide how to proceed. It does not announce a product recall or say that every product in either category is unsafe.
Why it matters
The useful distinction
A withdrawn rule change leaves the proposed removal unfinished. Anyone tracking the requirements should follow the Commission's next action rather than assume the July change took effect.
