Australia recalls 550 Peugeot and related vehicles over interior-door-handle software fault

Australia’s vehicle-recalls register says a software issue may deactivate interior door handles in specified 2024–2025 vehicles, preventing occupants from exiting in an emergency.

What the primary source says

Australia’s Department of Infrastructure vehicle-recalls register published recall REC-006738 on 29 September 2026 for 550 vehicles supplied by Inchcape European Automotive. The listed Peugeot 3008 ALL SUV HEV AUTO range includes related 3008, 308, 408, 5008 and E308 variants from 2024–2025. A software issue may deactivate interior door handles while the engine is running, which could prevent occupants from opening a door from inside the vehicle in an emergency. Peugeot Australia will contact owners to arrange a free software update at a local dealership. This Australian vehicle recall does not establish a UK recall.

Why it matters

The useful distinction

The recall number, affected-unit count and VIN list provide concrete checks for buyers of imported or second-hand vehicles; a model name alone is not enough to determine whether a vehicle is affected.
