OPSS updates coloured-sand recall to add Hampshire retailer
OPSS updated its 9 July recall notice for Habico 350g jars of coloured sand on 28 September to add Hampshire County Council Supplies as a retailer; the original asbestos-contamination warning remains in force.
What the primary source says
The Office for Product Safety and Standards updated its recall notice on 28 September 2026 for Habico Ltd 350g jars of coloured sand, originally published on 9 July 2026. The update adds Hampshire County Council Supplies to the retailers named in the notice. OPSS says the coloured play sand may contain a small quantity of asbestos and does not meet the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The notice covers jars bought on or after 1 June 2023, with or without batch codes, identified as distributed by Habico Ltd.
Consumers and organisations holding the affected jars should follow the withdrawal and recall instructions in the official notice and keep the product away from use until advised otherwise. This is a material update to the existing recall notice, not a new product event.
Why it matters
The useful distinction
Retailer additions can help schools, organisations and online buyers recognise a product they already hold. The 28 September date is the update date; the underlying recall was first published on 9 July.
