OPSS records 267 reported e-bike and e-scooter-related fires in 2025
Updated OPSS research summarises voluntary fire notifications; the figures are incomplete and are not a national incident estimate.
What the primary source says
OPSS's updated 2025 fire report records 267 notified incidents: 217 involving e-bikes, 46 e-scooters, three mobility scooters and one electric unicycle. London Fire Brigade supplied 214 notifications. Among the e-bike incidents, 82 involved converted bicycles, 37 manufactured e-bikes and 98 an unknown build type.
The figures cover incidents in 2025, not new fires on the publication date. Reporting is voluntary and incomplete, so the totals are not an estimate of all UK incidents and do not support a simple year-on-year comparison. This is regulator research, not a recall of any identified model.
Why it matters
The useful distinction
The reporting limitations matter as much as the headline count when explaining battery-fire evidence.
This briefing is an independent summary of the evidence sources below. Context-only links are not used as factual authority. It does not establish that a product, organisation or listing is unsafe, unlawful or non-compliant beyond what the evidence reports.
