Japan reports fire involving recalled Anker A1257 power bank; cause under investigation
Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency reported a fire involving an Anker A1257 power bank. The model was already subject to a Japanese recall, but the agency says the cause of this incident remains under investigation.
What the primary source says
Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency published a serious-product-incident notice on 25 September 2026 concerning an Anker Power Bank (10000mAh, 22.5W), model A1257. Incident A202600689 occurred on 2 September: the agency reports fire damage to the power bank and its surroundings after it had been carried in a rucksack. The cause remains under investigation; the notice does not establish that the incident was caused by the condition behind the existing recall.
Anker Japan began a recovery and exchange programme for affected A1257 units on 26 June 2025 after identifying inappropriate cell material in its supply chain. The CAA notice lists five colours and sales from 16 May 2024 to 6 June 2025; it reports 401,771 affected units and a 55.3% recovery rate as at 24 September 2026. Owners in Japan should check the serial number through Anker Japan's official recall process and follow its collection or exchange instructions for affected units. This Japanese action is not evidence of a UK recall.

Why it matters
The useful distinction
The existing recall and serial-number check give owners a concrete way to identify affected units, while the regulator has not yet determined the cause of the reported fire.
