New Zealand recalls Auckland graduation bears with removable hats

Three University of Auckland graduation-bear styles are recalled over a removable hat's elastic chin strap. Bears with a securely stitched hat are excluded.

What the primary source says

Product Safety New Zealand published Antics Marketing Limited's graduation-bear recall on 2 October 2026. It covers University of Auckland Boop Bear 91313, Graduation Bear 81179 and Graduation Bear 23cm 81171 sold at Auckland University Campus Bookstore from 3 August to 28 September 2026.

The removable trencher hat is held by an elastic chin strap that may not meet toy-safety requirements and can pose an entanglement or strangulation hazard.

Stop using the removable hat immediately and return the affected bear to the University of Auckland. Customers can choose a refund or a fully tested replacement with a stitched gown and hat at no cost. The standard bear with a securely stitched hat is not recalled.

This notice concerns New Zealand, not an established UK recall.

Why it matters

The useful distinction

The distinction between removable and stitched hats prevents confusion about which bears need action.
